Paper for iOS Concept : Case Study

Building a student-focused helper app 🙋🏻‍♂️

Paper’s main goal was to provide a platform for students to refer to old question papers to prep for their exam.

Overview

Paper was born out of an idea to consolidate and save all exam papers in one location. This happened, after we watched everyone scramble for old question papers before the exam.

Challenge

The main focus was to find and make the accessibility of question papers easier than WhatsApp, where people can just click a photo, and send it, or the various third party websites.
The Key Points were:

  • Accessibility
  • Ease of use
  • Beautiful and Clean UI

We’ve had a couple of paper sharing apps in the past, but none of them seemed to stick beyond a couple of months due to limited usage and accessibility.

Execution

When I started to design this app, the two points in my brain were:

  • How to make the flow easier
  • How to segregate the subjects and the exams for faster access.

The main focus was to stick to the Stock Apple Apps user design, so that the user can immediately pick up on how to use the app, and not have a learning curve.

The next task was preparing a better preview and a favourites section.
The favourites section would quickly allow you to access the subjects you need most frequently, and quickly.
The Preview Collection View shows a list of all the available question papers in each subject, along with the semester and slot. This goes on to the Main Download Screen, where you can download and save the paper, or send it to someone else.

Ofcourse, we also had to prepare an area where people could add in to the collection of papers we already had. The whole thing is supposed to be crowd-sourced to an extent.

That was the whole app surmised in the couple of screens. The app is dark-themed, and very simple to navigate through, and presenting a comparatively beautiful UI.

Takeaway

It was an excellent learning opportunity to recreate a concept that has already seen the light of day a couple of times. The challenge was to get better, get smoother, and make something along the guidelines so that people would be able to use it immediately.
